AFA American Eagle MEC E-Bulletin
Greetings,

Attention Flight Attendants who have been on Workers Compensation Leaves!

With the recent attention paid by American Eagle to flight attendants who have been on workers compensation leaves, via such items as the recently distributed “We’re Concerned About Your Safety” memorandum AFA is currently investigating the company’s treatment of flight attendants who have been injured in the course of their employment and received workers comp benefits.

While we have not been able to reach any conclusions, we suspect that American Eagle has begun to discipline certain flight attendants who have been injured on duty by characterizing their injuries as resulting from a failure to observe one or another Work Rules.  AFA’s position is that disciplining a flight attendant for suffering an injury on duty violates the collective bargaining agreement and may violate the workers compensation laws of one of more states where the company maintains the flight attendant domiciles.

If you have been injured on duty and it was reported to the company, then were subsequently disciplined in connection with the incident which caused the injury, we need to know about this.

Please send the following documents to the MEC:

1.                  A written description of the incident

2.                  A copy of the letter from American Eagle issuing the discipline to you

3.                 A copy of the page(s) of your attendance record (Form C-23) showing the workers comp/IOD leave

4.                  A copy of the page(s) of the Supervisor’s Record of Discussion (Form C-21) listing the discussion(s) your supervisor had with you about the IOD and the discipline

5.                  A copy of your HI10.
