AFA American Eagle MEC E-Bulletin
Greetings,

AMR Corporation Plans to Divest American Eagle

Today AMR Corporation announced the divestiture of American Eagle at the direction of the AMR Board of Directors.  We know that you will have many questions and concerns about our future as Employees of American Eagle.

The AFA Master Executive Council is in the process of scheduling a meeting with American Eagle President Peter Bowler, and Sr. Vice President of Customer Service, Jon Snook to discuss various scenarios regarding the divestiture of American Eagle, as well as answer questions about our company’s future in the near term. We have also contacted AFA’s International Office and briefed the AFA Legal Department.

It is important to understand that the divestiture of American Eagle can be done in different ways. The degree of impact to the American Eagle employees cannot be measured until we are certain about how AMR will structure the divestiture of Eagle. Once this has been determined, the degree of impact upon us can be measured. It could vary from minimal to drastic. Whether this is viewed positively or negatively, will ultimately depend on the perspective of each individual Employee at American Eagle Airlines.

Your AFA Leaders know that this will be a very trying time filled with questions and uncertainty for everyone. Each of us will do our very best to answer all of your questions.  However, please remember, both AFA and Management will have very limited information until the terms and conditions of the sale are determined. Until that time, none of the AFA Leaders want to speculate our future. We would, however, like to present your questions and concerns to American Eagle’s Senior Management and we will strive to ensure that every voice is heard. Please feel free to leave your questions for us at AEsalequestions@aol.com. We will pass them along on your behalf.

In closing, we ask that you do not assume the worst. This could prove to be a very exciting time for American Eagle, filled with growth and opportunity.  While our future is uncertain, we do know that none of this will happen overnight. A divestiture of this magnitude will require significant time to complete, and in the short term there will be little change in the way our Company does business. So please, in the interim of an announcement regarding the details of the divestiture of Eagle - your AFA Leaders urge you not to make any hasty decisions.

We will keep you updated with the most recent information as this situation evolves.

In Solidarity,

The AFA Master Executive Council
