American Eagle MEC Representative Receives International Honor
Dear AFA Member,
During our MEC Meeting held in Chicago toward the end of August, LEC 55 (BOS) Donna Cook advised the MEC of her intent to nominate our MEC Air Safety, Health and Security Committee Chairman John Grace for the 2005 Air Safety award. Donna received the full support from the American Eagle MEC with regard to her decision to nominate John Grace for this award.
The following was sent in to AFA International for consideration on behalf of John Grace’s efforts for the safety and well being of all Flight Attendants:

SECTION VII. F. - AIR SAFETY AWARD
AFA Safety Award shall be established in recognition of outstanding contributions by a member in the field of air safety.
SECTION VII. G. - C. B. LANSING MEMORIAL AWARD FOR HEROISM
The C. B. Lansing Memorial Award is to be established and awarded for heroism beyond the call of duty in aviation. It is the highest honor a member may bestow upon a fellow member.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
John Grace has had a long career as a Flight Attendant with a special interest in the field of Air Safety, Health and Security. He currently serves as MEC Air Safety, Health and Security Chair and LEC Chair for Council 51 ORD. Before serving as MEC Chair he was appointed as Chair to the MEC Presidential Committee for Galley Sanitation. John is well versed in many areas in this field. Affiliations: Aerospace Medical Assoc., National Register Who’s Who 2005-2006. ----
As LEC Chair, he created a web site for Local 51. John produced our first MEC Air Safety, Health and Security newsletter. Included in this newsletter are projects that John is presently working on with the base chairs. He has brought these concerns to the Company. Just to name a few projects, Critical Incident notification: He has worked tirelessly to get the Company to include the Union in the notification process. The Company now notifies us. MEC, EAP and IAFA are notified by 1-800 number and Faxes are sent out to all LEP’s. John has been in the forefront of trying to establish galley sanitation standards not only for American Eagle, but also for the industry. He has been instrumental in creating galley sanitation dialogue with the company and the FDA. This project continues. The breathe, depth and scope of his work are too numerous to list. We, the American Eagle MEC, consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have such a talented and gifted individual working so diligently on our behalf. John has a vision and commitment to strive for improvements in Air Safety, Health and Security not just for American Eagle, but also for AFA and the industry.

On behalf of the Master Executive Council, it is our great honor to inform you John Grace received the 2005 Air Safety Merit Award. John Grace started his 15-year career as a Flight Attendant with Brockway Airlines, which was acquired by Business Express. John joined the American Eagle family when AMR purchased and merged Business Express with American Eagle Airlines in 2000. John has dedicated much of his time working towards safety, health and security for the Flight Attendant profession.
International awards are a great honor. We are very proud that our peers at the twenty-six airlines that comprise the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA have recognized John for his incredible efforts on our behalves. We are forever grateful for his attentiveness to our continued safety and good health.
