July 13, 2005 - New AFA American Eagle  Website Launched

A new Eagle has launched! American Eagle AFA has a new, expanded Web site. While you’ll immediately notice a new, bright look, the most exciting features are the improved navigation and interactive features. The new navigation provides a drop-down menu that allows users to quickly find underlying pages. New interactive features include a forum for flight attendants to post ideas and feedback to union leaders; interactive polling to express your opinion; and a chat room just for AFA members. Come check it out at
www.afaeagle.com and take flight on the Web.

July 13, 2005 - Cast Your Strike Vote

A Message from Your MEC President

On Friday June 24, 2005, I sent to all members information about our contract negotiations. That information was long overdue. However, I have been getting some mixed feedback from many members. There are just a couple of things that I want to clear up.

We have not reached a Tentative Agreement (TA). We still have two open issues on the table. The Issues are your Hourly Wages and Personal Other’s (PO). When a complete Tentative Agreement is signed it will be taken to the Master Executive Council (MEC). The MEC will then vote on whether or not to send it to you the members. Once that decision has been made, the negotiations team will conduct a Tentative Agreement Road Show at every base. At these Road Shows, you will be able to review the deal and go over it with the Negotiations Team. The TA will also be mailed to your home and it will be up to you to attend a Road Show.

What Are You Voting On?

By now you should have received your Strike Vote Ballot Instructions. The Polls will open on July 5, 2005 and close on July 22, 2005. You will have plenty of time to talk it over with your families and make the decision that allows your voice to be heard.

I want to make it very clear that you are not voting to go on strike tomorrow. We first need to be released from the power of the National Mediation Board into a Thirty (30) Day Cooling off Period. During this Thirty Day Period the parties will engage in what is known as super- mediation, continuing to negotiate in an effort to reach an agreement. During this time preparations for CHAOStm will be started but cannot be implemented until the end of the cooling off period. You are voting to tell the Company that if they will not deal with us fairly and reach an agreement, you are willing to strike for the pay and benefits you deserve.

Currently, we are still in Mediation. New dates have yet to be set by the Mediator and we have not been placed into an official recess. There is a strong possibility that the Mediator will call both parties back to the table. However, an agreement will not be reached unless there is some movement from either party.

Right now we are working on finalizing all of the language from the sections that have been agreed to by both sides but have yet to be signed. This work should be completed in August.

It is important that you make an informed decision so please contact your Local Council President or a member of the Negotiations Committee if you have any questions about the information you have received on the tentatively agreed to sections of the contract or about the decision to strike if an agreement is not reached.

The Negotiations Team has worked hard to get this far and now we need your support to finalize a deal that provides the improved wages and benefits you need and will find acceptable. The final decision on your next contract will be up to you.

The Negotiations Team along with the Master Executive Council urges you to vote “YES” for a CHAOS™ Strike

Once again “WE DON’T HAVE A TENTATIVE AGREEMENT”. You are not voting on a TA. You are voting on if you are willing to engage in a CHAOS™ STRIKE in support of the contract you need and want.

In Solidarity,
Reggie Salas
AFA-American Eagle MEC President
