Contract Negotiations Team Elections

According to the AFA-CWA Constitution and Bylaws, Section VI, a new committee shall be selected nine (9) months prior to the date a "Section 6 Notice" is served.

Also, according to our Contract Agreement, Section 31:

 A. This Agreement shall become effective October 27, 2005 except as otherwise set forth in this Agreement, and shall continue in full force and effect until and including October 27, 2009 and shall renew itself without change until each succeeding October 27, thereafter, unless written notice of intended change is served in accordance with Section 6, Title I of the Railway Labor Act, as amended,

by either party, at least one hundred twenty (120) days but not more than one hundred eighty (180) days prior to the 27th day of October in any year, beginning with 2009.

B. Should written notice of intended change be served in accordance with paragraph A., above, the Company and the Association shall meet and begin Section 6 negotiations no later than ninety (90) days prior to the 27th day of October.

Given this timeline, we must begin the Election process for our next Negotiations Team.

The Negotiations Team will be comprised of three Members in Good Standing plus the MEC President.

If you are interested in one of the three positions above, please send your resume` to MEC President Veronica Tenerelli at VTenerelli@aol.com  by May 23^rd, 2008. Experience in Grievance procedures, strong knowledge of our current Contract and Union Activism are preferred.  You should be willing to devote your full time to this committee during negotiations for several years.

Some Duties and Responsibilities include:

a. The Committee, with the advice of the Staff Negotiator shall have the authority to conclude an agreement, subject to the provisions of Article XII of the Constitution and Bylaws.

b. All members of the Committee, including alternates whenever possible, shall complete a negotiations training seminar prior to writing an "opener."

c. Committee members shall be familiar with Union policy and keep abreast of new developments in the industry.

d. Committee members shall utilize the facilities and resources of the Union and the experience and knowledge of Union Officers, International Office staff and study committees of the Union. (e.g., Legal, Retirement and Insurance, Wage and Working Conditions, etc.).

Interviews and Election of Negotiating Committee Members will occur at our next scheduled MEC Meeting, June 17-19, 2008 in DFW.
